GIVE YOUR TEETH A BREAK – HARD VS SOFT BRISTLE TOOTHBRUSH! Brampton Dentists

Using a hard bristle toothbrush is good for your teeth and oral health!

WRONG!

Brampton Dentists, Top Dentist in Brampton, Best Dentist in Brampton, Tooth Brushing, Dental health, Dental info, Dental Facts,It is very important when choosing a toothbrush we choose one with soft bristles. Brushing your teeth with a medium or hard bristle toothbrush damages the tooth enamel and gum tissue which can often lead to gum recession and abrasion of the enamel. The myth about a hard bristle toothbrush cleaning your teeth better is just wrong. A soft bristle toothbrush is a lot more flexible allowing the bristles to reach between your teeth and gums. It is also easier on the teeth to assure not causing damage. Give your teeth and gums a break and make sure you use a soft bristle tooth brush!

Soft brushes are designed to be gentle on your teeth and gums, but don’t throw those hard brushes out , they are good for ring around the collar and cleaning around faucets and little corners!

PREGNANCY, GUM DISEASE and THE EFFECTS ON YOUR LABOUR! Dentists in Brampton

Top Dentist in Brampton, Brampton Dental Office, pregnancy and Gum Disease,There may be an increased risk of premature delivery for expecting mothers with gum disease. Expecting mothers with gum disease, should be aware that the bacteria in the mouth increase the levels of PGE2 (The naturally occurring prostaglandin E2, Known in medicine as dinoprostone. It has important effects in labour (softens cervix and causes uterine contraction) and also stimulates osteoblasts to release factors that stimulate bone resorption by osteoclasts.) When the PGE2 level increases in the 9th month of pregnancy labour starts. In mothers with serious gum disease the level of PGE2 rises to soon and early labour can happen. Hormones during pregnancy can aggravate existing gum disease, you may have more bleeding and swelling in the gums. Your hygienist may recommend more frequent cleanings. It is important to visit us regularly and to continue with good home oral care.

Do You Smoke? 5 Steps to help you Quit

New Year's resolution Quit Smoking, Brampton Dentists, Dental offices In Brampton, Cosmetic Dentist in Brampton Top Dentists, Beast Dentist in Brampton,5 Steps to Quitting Smoking

Step 1:  Have a plan

Once you’ve made up your mind to quit smoking and set the date, develop a plan. There are free tools online at smokefree.gov and a toll-free number, 1-800-QUIT-NOW, to help you succeed. Download an app to track your progress.

Step 2:  Don’t go it alone

It will be easier to quit smoking if you have support from family and friends. Let them know you’ve decided to quit, ask for their support, and tell them specifically what they can do to help. Spend time with people who want you to succeed. Talk to friends who have quit and ask for their advice.

Step 3:  Stay busy

Replace your smoking habit with a healthy habit like exercise. Make plans for dinner or a movie with non-smoking friends. Instead of smoking, chew sugarless gum—it keeps your mouth busy and helps prevent cavities, too.

Step 4:  Avoid smoking triggers

Stay away from people, places and things that tempt you to smoke. Some common triggers include stress, alcohol, coffee, and hanging out with people who smoke. Throw out cigarettes, lighters and ashtrays, and go to places where smoking isn’t allowed.

Step 5:  Reward your accomplishments

Quitting is hard. And, every hour or day you go without a cigarette is an achievement. Take it hour by hour, and reward yourself for small successes. With all the money you save on cigarettes, you can treat yourself to a stress-relieving massage or a pedicure! ADA

Energy/Sports Drinks And The Damage They Cause To Your Teeth!

Sports Drink, Energy Drinks, Brampton Dentists, Dental offices in Brampton,

What do you drink to hydrate?

Choosing an energy drink may be putting your oral health at risk and damage your teeth.

Studies show that there are more children with serious tooth problems and energy drinks may be the cause. The sugar and acid in an energy drink may lead to tooth decay and erosion.

Healthy Choices, Dental Health, Dental Info, Dental Tips, Dentists in Brampton,The sugar and acid in energy drinks is a perfect recipe for bacteria growth in the mouth which may cause tooth decay and dental erosion. When given the choice, water is best for hydration. If energy drinks must be consumed then it is essential to rinse with water afterwards to reduce the potential damage in may cause. Be sure to wait an hour before brushing after having an energy drink as acidic foods and drinks soften the tooth enamel.

Drinking sports drinks during training and then putting a mouth guard in, locks liquid right on the teeth. The neutralizing effect of saliva is minimized and the damaging effects of the acidity and sugar increase.

Tooth decay is one of the most common childhood disease, however most preventable with proper care. The Ontario Dental Association encourages children and teens to choose water or, at least, limit their intake of sports/energy drinks.
